Phillip "Coach PhiL" Jones is an American coach for Splyce. He has coached many teams in his career including Team Allegiance and Active Rush.

Biography

Phillip Jones was born on May 13, 1995 and is from Tell City, Indiana. At a young age Phil would play Halo 2 with his brothers and friends on LAN split-screen setups. His brothers then introduced him to the world of competitive Halo through watching MLG on TV, where he became a fan of Final Boss. In Halo 3 Phil started to play online with Xbox Live, but it took until 2010 before he attempted to join the competitive scene. Always one to focus more on strategy he quickly took an interest in coaching. At the age of 14, Phil entered the professional scene as a coach, notably being one of the youngest to ever do so. In fact, he was often younger than all of the players on his team. He is known for his reliability and experience in and outside of the game, giving him a calm and collected attitude while coaching.

Halo 3

Coach Phil started his coaching career in Halo 3 when a group of his friends asked him to coach their Gamebattles team. Shortly after, Phil was able to make a connection with the first MLG Combine champions - Adrenaline Rush - a roster comprised of Blaze, JeRawockee, Dubay and Krunchy. The team's first event was MLG Columbus 2010 where they finished 21st after a strong open bracket run. Following MLG Columbus, Phil would follow Blaze and Jerawockee to form Sicker than Yo Average with Monix and Royal2. Unfortunately, school obligations prevented Phil from attending the following event in Raleigh and he elected to sit out the remainder of the season.

Halo: Reach

Coach Phil returned to prominence after skipping the first event of the season in Dallas. He took the coaching helm for Active Rush, a bubble team consisting of Frosty, SneakEBeaver, Aries and IceVayne. In his first time coaching Halo: Reach at an event, Phil helped Active Rush take home 10th place in Columbus. After the event the team split with IceVayne, and replaced him with BatMayne for Anaheim. Going into the event the team attended a LAN hosted by Str8 Rippin, one in which the team took the majority of the series played. In Anaheim, Active Rush fell to Turning Point and placed 12th in what would not be the final meeting of those two teams in the season. Going into Raleigh the core of Active Rush remained the same, but BatMayne was replaced by the veteran SK. Unfortunately, last minute sponsor troubles forced Phil to sit out the event. They finished 12th in his absence. Going into Orlando the team again made a change in fourth, picking up Elumnite to round out the squad. In Orlando the team got revenge on Turning Point, this time beating them for a top 8 finish. The following event was the Providence Championships, where Active Rush upset heavy favorites Warriors, a team that ended up taking second place in the tournament. The season series with Turning Point was settled in Providence, with Active Rush pulling out another victory and finishing top 8 over their mini-rivals. After this event, Active Rush disbanded, and Coach Phil followed Aries and Frosty to team Milk and Cookies alongside Milk and Regicide for Columbus 2012. The team heavily underperformed at the solo no-bloom event, finishing in the top 96.

Halo 4

Coach Phil started Halo 4 as the coach of Swagger Like Us, a roster consisting of Zoo Wuu, Thrust, Jordan, and zGhetto. Due to zGhetto's flight being delayed, Phil actually saw in-game action at MLG Dallas 2012, playing in the early warm-up rounds. The team went on to place in the top 24. Phil then reunited with former teammate Blaze for AGL 7 Knoxville on Believe the Hype with MaNiaC, LethuL and Cloud. The team finished in the top 8. Following the event Phil followed LethuL to Infamous with Naded, Goofy and RyaNoob for AGL 8 Knoxville. Despite taking down the reigning champions in Ambush, the squad would eventually fall to Requiem in the finals after they reset the bracket, taking home 2nd.

Halo 5: Guardians

Phil completely skipped Halo 2: Anniversary, returning to competitive Halo upon the release of Halo 5: Guardians. He began by reuniting with Naded and joining Team Allegiance alongside Cratos, Suspector and eL ToWn. Phil coached Allegiance to 3rd place at X Games Aspen 2016, resulting in the team earning bronze medals. Phil then parted ways with Allegiance, eventually opting to coach Winterfox's roster of Randa, RyaNoob, Domey and Shooter. The team was ultimately unable to emerge from its pool at the HaloWC 2016 Regional Finals and missed out on qualifying for Halo World Championship 2016.

Initially planning to retire, Phil was talked out of it by old teammate Goofy to return to Team Allegiance, this time alongside RyaNoob, ContrA and PreDevoNatoR. After qualifying for the Summer 2016 Pro League, Phil would begin a long stint with Allegiance and duo ContrA/Devon. The team parted ways with Goofy early in the season, replacing him with Heinz. They ultimately finished 6th, high enough to avoid Relegation but too low to qualify for the Season Finals.

For the Fall Season, Allegiance replaced Heinz and RyaNoob with Falcated and Shooter. Shooter left shortly into the season and was replaced by Str8 SicK. The team finished the season in last place, facing Relegation. Despite their poor online performance, they showed their true potential at HCS Las Vegas 2016, finishing 3rd. They then survived Relegation by placing 2nd after Enigma6 Group.

Despite surviving Relegation, Allegiance disbanded after the season, and Phil moved on to Inconceivable with former teammates Shooter and Falcated alongside bubu dubu and Shotzzy. After placing top 6 at UGC St. Louis 2017 the squad would be picked up by Splyce and go on to qualify for Halo World Championship 2017 through the Last Chance Qualifier. The team began the event by upsetting Team EnVyUs in pool play before falling to Luminosity Gaming and Str8 Rippin in two heart breaking championship bracket game 7s, eventually placing top 6.
