Excel Esports is a British team. Their name was previously stylised exceL eSports

History

Halo 5: Guardians

exceL eSports entered the Halo scene on December 5, 2015, announcing a roster of Liam "Havoc" Peck, Conor "VexZeus" Scally, Kyle "CreepeazY" Thompson and Casey "Lunny" Lunn. A few weeks later, they announced their coach - Leuis "Prsma" Charles. Prior to the beginning of the Halo World Championship 2016 qualifying series, CreepeazY and VexZeus were replaced by Liam "GodShot" Healy and Arkel "Snakey" Brown. In four straight qualifiers, exceL finished in the top 4, which was enough to qualify them for the Gfinity London 2016 event. At the event, exceL finished 4th, just short of qualifying for the EMEA Regional Finals. As a result, exceL made team changes, replacing Havoc and GodShot with Max "Riotz" Cottle and a returning "CreepeazY". The new roster took 1st place in the Last Chance Qualifier, successfully qualifying for Regionals. At Regionals, exceL went on a run, first winning their pool before sweeping Team Vitality to qualify themselves for Worlds and then taking a 4-1 victory over FAB Games eSports to earn a spot in the Finals. In the Finals, exceL were swept 4-0 by Team Infused. At Worlds, exceL were unable to advance from the group stage, defeating only Chosen Squad and finishing top 16 overall. The roster was quietly released in the following weeks.

exceL made its return to Halo on February 1, 2017, announcing a roster of three returning players - "Riotz", "Havoc" and "CreepeazY" alongside Stuart "WarLord" Graham. CreepeazY was quickly replaced by Daniel "Flamez" Marc-Young. After finishing in the top 8 at Gfinity London 2017 and failing to earn a spot at Halo World Championship 2017, exceL quietly disbanded.

exceL returned to Halo a little over three months later, bringing back WarLord alongside his new teammates Peter "Morguh" Brussee, Morgan "Zhuh" Bower and Shady "Shady" Zer during the lead-up to the HCS Pro League. In prior weeks, the team had successfully qualified for the Pro League as Hmmmm. After a 0-2 start to the season, Morguh left the team and was replaced by Ryan "Batchford" Batchelor. The acquisition of Batchford lead to moderate improvement, with the team taking a 4-0 win over Divine Domination, but they finished in fifth, not high enough to qualify for DreamHack Atlanta.

On September 8, exceL announced its new roster, consisting of Arkel "Snakey" Brown, Andrew "Ramirez" Corrigan, Michael "Snipedrone" Juchau, Hamzah "Phlux" Nackvi and coach Xavier "Xavi" Spiller. The team performed strongly over the Fall 2017 EU Circuit, finishing first, second and third in the three online cups (only one of which took place following exceL's acquisition of the roster). At Gfinity London, the second seeded exceL were upset by the sixth seeded Supremacy in the Winners Semifinals. In their first Elimination match, exceL lost 3-2 to Vexed Gaming, going home with a top six finish and no DreamHack Denver seed. exceL were able to turn things around the following week, winning the LCQ with a 4-1 victory over Endpoint in the Finals, earning themselves the #2 seed in the Denver Open Bracket. Things looked bleak to start when exceL were swept in the very first round by Radiant Esports, but the team won six consecutive matches against American teams to earn a spot in the Championship Bracket. In the Championship Bracket, exceL were swept right off the bat again, this time by OpTic Gaming. In the Elimination Bracket, they were taken out by Supremacy once again, taking a top sixteen finish overall.
