Biography

Matthew Piper was born on December 19, 1994. He is from southern California.

Halo 3

Formal began his Halo career at MLG Anaheim 2009, as a member of Chilled Reality alongside AoW, Frogan and Shyre. They placed 30th. Formal's next event was MLG Columbus 2010 as a member of The A-Team with HaloKnight. They placed outside the top 32. Formal's last documented Halo 3 event was MLG Raleigh 2010, where he again placed outside of the top 32 as a member of Far From Home alongside Aptix, Gregor and MuNoZ.

Halo: Reach

Formal first made a name for himself in Halo: Reach by placing 5th at MLG Dallas 2011. His team, Soul, included Blaze, Brake and Ryanoob. Ryanoob was replaced with Goofy for Columbus, where Formal and Soul took 6th place. Formal and Blaze then left Soul to join Believe the Hype alongside Maniac and Ryanoob. BtH took 5th place in Anaheim. Blaze and Ryanoob then left BtH to join Infamous, and were replaced by Destin and Reliable. The new squad placed 3rd in Raleigh. Formal and Destin then left BtH to join Dynasty alongside Heinz and TiZoXiC. On Dynasty, Formal finally found success, winning his first event in Orlando. Unfortunately, Dynasty did not perform as well at the Providence National Championships, taking 5th place. In 2012, Formal and Heinz left Dynasty to form Ambush with APG and Cloud. The new squad placed 3rd at the MLG Winter Championship 2012. After MLG dropped Halo, Formal and APG joined team Avengers with Clutch and Lethul and placed 3rd at AGL 1. The 2011 Dynasty lineup then reformed for AGL 2, where Formal again placed 3rd.

Halo 4

In late 2012, Formal and Heinz reformed Ambush again, this time with APG and Snip3down. The new squad took 2nd at the MLG Fall Championship 2012. The Ambush squad stuck together for AGL 3 Chicago where they placed 1st. APG was then replaced with iGotUrPistola, and the new squad proceeded to dominate the competition, winning three straight events (AGL 5, AGL 7, UMG Chicago) before placing 4th at AGL 8. They then attended AGL 9 with Enable in place of Snip3down and won the event. In 2014, Formal and Heinz formed Reign 812 with APG and Lethul, and the squad placed 3rd at RTX 2014.

Halo 2: Annivesary

Formal, APG and Lethul started off H2A by joining Believe the Hype. This squad took 1st place at the ESL MCC Launch Invitational. Formal retired from Halo after this to fully pursue a Call of Duty career.

Trivia

  • Formal is the first player to win a major event in both Halo and Call of Duty. He earned this distinction on August 3, 2014 when he won Gfinity 3 as a member of Team EnVyUs.
