The Summer 2016 season of the North American Halo Championship Series Open Circuit is a concluded series of Halo 5: Guardians competition in the North American region, run by Electronic Sports League. The game is played in 4v4 competition in a series of online tournaments, in a season spanning from June 3rd - July 10, 2016. It is held concurrently with the Pro League.
Overview
The Open Circuit serves as the highest form of competition available to teams not qualified for the Pro League. Similar to the HCS Cup format used in HCS Season 2, the Open Circuit features five open tournaments, starting with an open bracket and ending with the top 8 teams from the open bracket facing the top 8 teams in the standings in the "Legendary Bracket". Following these tournaments, the top teams in the standings have a chance to earn spots in the Fall 2016 Pro League by defeating the bottom two teams from the Summer 2016 season.
Format
- Weekly Open Cups split into Open Cup and Legendary Cup
- Legendary Cup consists of top 16 teams from Open Bracket (Cup #1) or top 8 teams from previous week, plus top 8 teams from current week's Open Cup (Cups #2-5)
- Points awarded based on placings over the season
- Teams permitted to make one roster change per week without losing points
- Top 8 teams in points, plus top 8 teams from Legendary Cup #5 qualify for Open Circuit Finals
- Top 2 teams from Open Circuit Finals qualify for Relegation Event against bottom two Pro League teams
