Status Quo

Original Status Quo logo.

Status Quo was formed during the 2008 pre-season by four amateur players in Michael "FlamesworD" Chaves, Kevin "BRAKE" Zimmerman, PJ "Prolific" Pattie and Kris "S1y Fox" Thompson. The young team showed promise at its first event, upsetting the 14th seeded Ununtrium to secure a top 24 placing. After being swept by Believe the Hype, SQ went home in 18th. After Meadowlands, SQ replaced S1y with "PiLEZ". In San Diego, SQ took 20th place after losing to Fatal Images and Chilled Reality. For Orlando, Brake and PiLEZ were let go, replaced by Marcus "Elumnite" Lovejoy and a returning S1y Fox. After losses to PSF and Dirty Ghetto Kids, SQ took 21st place in Orlando.

Going into Toronto, SQ made another team change, replacing Prolific with Anthony "Totz" Pennacchio. SQ's performance vastly improved in Toronto. Despite a 1st round Winners Bracket loss to Active Rush, SQ went on a Losers Bracket run, eliminating three teams before a close loss to Ambush sent them home in 12th. At the Dallas playoffs, SQ upset Active Rush in the Open Bracket, but could not get past the #1 seeded Antigravity. In Losers, they lost a close match to LeGendZ, who went on to win the Open Bracket and earn the final seed in the Championship Bracket and the Las Vegas National Championships.

Status Quo got a major upgrade during the offseason, replacing Elumnite and S1y with Aaron "AcE" Elam (brother of ElamiteWarrior) and the legendary 2007 National Champion Michael "StrongSide" Cavanaugh. SQ started off Meadowlands strong, upsetting 8th seeded VG The New Order in Round 1. After being swept by Final Boss, SQ swept XiT WoundZ before losing 6-4 to Heaven and Earth and going home in 7th, their first top 8 placing. In Columbus, SQ lost to Classic in the first round, but swept Heaven and Earth in their first Losers match to stay alive. They followed this up by eliminating Ambush before meeting Classic again and losing 6-3. SQ again went home in 7th place.

After Columbus, StrongSide left SQ to return to Final Boss, so SQ picked up Wes "Clutch" Price of Believe the Hype fame. After a close victory over Ambush in the opening round in Dallas, SQ were taken out 3-1 by Triggers Down. In Losers, they were immediately eliminated by Dynasty and went home in 10th place. Clutch was gone after one event with Status Quo, replaced by the veteran presence of Sean "Legend" Hinsinger, coming off two strong placings with Classic. In Anaheim, SQ swept Heaven and Earth before being swept by Triggers Down in the following round. This was followed by a loss to Believe the Hype and another 10th place finish. At the Orlando National Championships, SQ was swept in its first round match against Classic, followed by another sweep from Dynasty in their first Losers Bracket match. They went home in 9th place.

During the offseason, FlamesworD and AcE assembled a roster that would go on to become synonymous with the Status Quo name, replacing Legend and Totz with Clete "Assault" LoRusso and Ian "eNabLe" Wyatt. While Enable had a few top 8 placings to his name, Assault was largely unproven at the top level of competition. Despite a first round loss to Heaven and Earth in Orlando, SQ went on an inspiring run, taking out the legendary Str8 Rippin lineup in 5 games before sweeping the team that had dominated 2009 - Triggers Down. In the Losers Semifinals, they were narrowly defeated by Final Boss and went home with a new top placing for everyone on the team - 4th. In Columbus, SQ swept Heaven and Earth in the opening round before being swept by Instinct. They went on another inspiring run, taking out Power Gaming, Str8 Rippin, Classic and Carbon before a close loss to Believe the Hype sent them home in 4th once again.

In Raleigh, SQ made it to the Winners Semifinals before being knocked out by Instinct. In Losers, they took out Warriors before losing to Triggers Down in the Semifinals and took 4th place once again. SQ took a step back in D.C., losing to Dynasty in Winners Round 2. In Losers Round 7, they were upset in 11 games by Darkest Hour and sent home in 7th. Going into the Dallas National Championships, the 4th seeded Status Quo enlisted the help of the legendary Tom "Tsquared" Taylor, bringing the veteran in to coach the team after his own team failed to qualify. T2's coaching made all the difference, as SQ took out Dynasty in the opening round. They were defeated by Final Boss in Round 2, but kept at it and beat Believe the Hype (3-0), Triggers Down (3-2) and Instinct (3-1) to make it to their first ever Grand Finals, where they were defeated 6-2 by Final Boss.

Halo: Reach

Status Quo did not make a team change going into the 2011 season, making them the only team besides the National Champions to stay the same. Things did not look good to start in Dallas, as SQ lost a Pool Play match against Invictus in a sweep. Fortunately, SQ were able to turn things around and win their pool. In the Winners Semifinals, SQ took out Instinct in 4 games before defeating THO Impact in the Winners Finals and advancing to their first ever Grand Final from the Winners Bracket. They defeated Impact 6-2 in the Grand Final and won their first event.

SQ had a tougher time in Columbus, finishing 3rd in their pool after losses to Capital Punishment and Dynasty. After victories over Triggers Down and Impact, SQ were defeated 3-1 by Str8 and sent home in a disappointing 7th place. In Anaheim, SQ again won its pool despite a 3-0 loss to Quantic Fallen. They then swept Fnatic Classic in the Winners Semifinals, but met a brick wall in the infamous Instinct "God Squad" in the Winners Finals. Instinct swept SQ who then met Fnatic Classic in an LB Finals rematch. Classic managed to extend the series to 10 games before finally bowing out. In the Grand Finals, Instinct swept SQ 6-0 and took the event with a perfect record.

In Raleigh, SQ won their pool with a nearly perfect 12-2 map record. Unfortunately, they were unable to get past Believe the Hype in the Winners Semifinals. In Losers Round 8, they were taken out in 4 games by the eventual winners of the event - Infamous - and sent home in 5th. In Orlando, SQ finished 2nd in its pool to Triggers Down. They took out Fnatic Classic and Active Rush before meeting Instinct in Round 8. SQ managed to slay Instinct with a 3-2 victory, but were defeated by Warriors in the following round and sent home in 4th. At the Providence National Championships, the 2nd seeded Status Quo were defeated early by Fnatic Classic. They were able to get past Triggers Down in their first Losers Bracket match, but lost to Warriors again in Round 7, resulting in a 7th place finish at the biggest event of the year.

After almost two years with the same roster, SQ finally made a team change going into Columbus, replacing AcE and Assault with Warriors duo Paul "SnakeBite" Duarte and Mathew "Royal2" Fiorante. In Columbus, SQ dominated up until the Winners Final, where they were defeated in 5 games by Instinct. They took out Ambush in the Losers Finals to earn a rematch with Instinct, where they capitalized, taking out Instinct in 11 games and taking the final MLG Halo: Reach event. With Royal2 unable to attend AGL 1 Chicago, SQ enlisted the services of Justin "Roy" Brown from Instinct. With Roy on board, SQ took 1st place in Chicago.

Halo 4

Royal2 returned to the lineup for the Dallas Halo 4 exposition. SQ were defeated by Warriors early, but went on a big Losers Bracket run, taking out Western Wolves, Dynasty, Brick Squad, Instinct, Believe the Hype, Ion and Legendary before finally bowing out after a 2-1 loss to Ambush sent them home in 3rd.

Enable and FlamesworD assembled a new SQ lineup for AGL 3 Chicago, bringing in Justin "FearItSelf" Kats and Cameron "Victory X" Thorlakson. The team finished 5th after losses to Warriors and Legendary. For AGL 5 Nashville, Enable and FlamesworD brought back SnakeBite and recruited Bradley "a Pure Gangster" Laws. The new SQ finished 4th after losses to Pure and Warriors.

For AGL 7 Knoxville, Enable and FlamesworD recruited Sean "Dersky" Swidersky and a returning AcE. They finished 2nd, falling to the dominant Ambush in the Finals. The same roster finished 4th at UMG Chicago 2013 as G4C Status Quo. For AGL 8 Knoxville, Enable and FlamesworD brought in Nick "BesT MaN" Johnson and Mason "Neighbor" Cobb. They finished 3rd at what would be the final event for both players.

FlamesworD and Enable briefly competed in Europe, picking up James "Jimbo" Bradbrook and Rob "Septic" Singleton for Multiplay Insomnia 50. SQ won the event, taking out High Society in the Finals. Status Quo disbanded after this event. FlamesworD went on to coach OpTic Gaming's Call of Duty team before forming his own OpTic Halo squad. Enable permanently switched to Call of Duty, becoming a successful player with multiple event wins to his name.
